Memorial Day weekend has come and gone, school is almost out, and Central Oregon is officially starting to feel like summer. Longer days, warmer evenings, more road trips, backyard BBQs, hikes, paddle boards, camping weekends, and packed family schedules are right around the corner.

And while summer is exciting for us, it can also mean a big change in routine for our dogs.

One thing we see time and time again? A balanced dog makes everything better.

A dog that has an outlet for their physical and mental energy is often calmer at home, more relaxed around guests, better on walks, less destructive, and more content simply being part of the family activities. Whether your dog loves adventure or just needs consistency and structure, regular exercise can make a huge difference heading into the busy summer months.

Summer in Central Oregon also brings unpredictable schedules. Some days are packed with activities, while others are spent indoors escaping heat or smoke. Having a consistent exercise routine helps dogs adapt to those changing days a little easier.

At Bend Barks & Rec, one of our favorite parts of summer is seeing dogs light up when the van pulls up. The excitement, confidence, and happy tired smiles afterward never get old.

As we move into this new season, here’s your reminder: a balanced dog helps create a calmer, happier home for everyone.

Wishing you a fun, safe, and adventure-filled summer ahead.
