When starting treadmill training, it’s important to understand that not all dogs will immediately feel comfortable or confident enough to run. Just like humans, dogs need time to adjust to new experiences and environments. Some dogs may be initially hesitant or nervous, which is completely normal. The key to success is progressing at a pace that works for your dog, ensuring they feel safe, comfortable, and supported throughout the process. The three stages to help guide your dog’s treadmill journey are as follows: 1) Introduction & Confidence Building. 2) Independent Movement & Endurance Development. 3) Advanced Training & Optimal Well-Being.

We follow a gentle, three-stage approach to ensure your dog’s experience is safe, positive, and rewarding:
Stage One: Introduction & Confidence Building
Dogs may be hesitant at first, and that’s okay. We focus on patience and consistency, allowing your dog to explore the Slatmill at their own pace. The goal here is comfort, not speed—every dog progresses differently.Stage Two: Independent Movement & Endurance Development
Once your dog is comfortable, they’ll begin walking or running on their own. During this stage, we help build endurance and encourage steady, confident movement throughout the session.Stage Three: Advanced Training & Optimal Well-being
Now that your dog is confident and consistent, we can introduce challenges like incline and resistance to further enhance physical fitness and mental focus—boosting overall health and happiness.

This mission comes from the heart of our founder, Stefanie, who was diagnosed with breast cancer at 35. She experienced firsthand the emotional lift a happy, exercised dog can bring, even on the hardest days. Today, that experience fuels our passion to give back to others walking a similar path.
Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us bring joy and movement to dogs whose families need a little extra support right now.
Together, we’re building a stronger, kinder community — one run, one wag, and one act of compassion at a time.
